Up to 11% of European SMEs lose business due to a lack of language skills and in order to compete with countries in Asia and Latin America, Europe will have to promote language learning more effectively.

Although English is a basic skill for business, knowing other languages is important. To succeed internationally and improve exports, companies should improve proficiency in languages such as German, French, Russian, and Mandarin.
